Hello, I’m Mike Walsh – and on February 1st, I headed off on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
In 1997, I was diagnosed with Usher Syndrome Type 2. I have a moderate hearing loss combined with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). My hearing has been stable my entire life, and with the help of hearing aids I am able to hear pretty well.
My vision is a different story. It is slowly starting to go. In 2011, my night vision became so bad, driving at night became dangerous. In 2012, I stopped being able to drive all together. This past year, I began to use a cane. Today, I bump into things all day and everyday. Crossing streets is a challenge. Everything is darker and all forms of light bother me.
My vision is going. The world will not wait for me to see it.
Update: I have visited 10 countries and 14 states on 6 continents since February. You can see my blogs here. Likewise you can follow and engage with me on my Facebook Page and other Social Media platforms.
The journey continues!
Mike, I love that you’ve created this blog! I can’t wait to follow your journey…
Thanks Katie, the pressure is on to keep it going! I am just so pro-Facebook!
Mike, I’ve been to all 7 continents and out of all 7, I think you have to visit Antarctica! Amazing and unbelievably beautiful. I can tell you more details if you’re interested. I hope you will go! Britt
